Merry Christmas 2009

Merry Christmas 2009

May the special gifts of health, peace, joy and happiness be yours throughout the year.

Again, it’s time to wish special friends and family a “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year”. Lee and I have no special news—we continue to stay busy. Lee helps me with the Sunday School class at our local nursing home and both of us are active in our local retired teachers unit. Lee continues to enjoy working at his “Playground”—trimming trees, cutting firewood, taking care of three deer blinds, etc. I belong to FBC Shawl Ministry, a book club, a study/service club, Red Hat Society, and, of course, sewing, quilting, and other handwork. How lucky we are—our health is good, we have an adequate income, a lovely home, many labor saving appliances. We are truly blessed!!

LeAnn, Ryan, Anna, and Ada are still in Ft. Worth. LeAnn still teaches biology at North Crowley 9th Grade Campus and Ryan teaches 7th grade social studies at Summer Creek Middle School. Anna is in kindergarten at Dallas Park Elementary. Ada still stays with Miss Ely.

Jim, Carman, and Jordan moved to San Angelo this summer. Jim teaches science and is assistant FB coach at Lake View HS, Carman teaches 5th grade at Holliman Elementary, and Jordan is in the 2nd grade at Holliman. It is wonderful having them only 30 minutes from Bronte!! Their big news is that they are expecting Carter Leigh in February. We’ll have 4 granddaughters!!

All three girls spent a few days with us during the summer. I’m not quite brave enough to have all three of them at the same time so they came individually. They loved Bronte’s swimming pool so I spent lots of time trying to find a shade and stay cool while I watched. Both children and families were here for Thanksgiving so I can’t send a letter without including our picture- - -

Wonderful time with Wes!!

Jim, Carman, Jordan, and Wes

Yes, Wes is eating, talking, teasing Carman!!

Jordan and Uncle Wes acting silly.

Jordan and Uncle Wes--how much he enjoyed meeting her.

Lee and I picked Wes (my brother) up at Midland International Airport Wednesday morning, November 18. We got home in time for the guys to go to The Playground for deer hunting. Jim, Carman, and Jordan came that evening for a short visit. Then back to the blinds on on Thursday morning. They made it back in time to go to Bronte Health and Rehab Center for Thanksgiving lunch. I sure had fun introducing Wes to so many of my friends there. Back to hunt that afternoon. Wes killed an 8 point deer--his FIRST deer in his eight years of hunting. He was excited!! If you are squeamish or don't believe in hunting, don't look at the last picture. But we had it processed and will make good use of the meat--if that makes you feel any better.

We had a fish fry Friday at noon and invited Fredna and Elton Moore--dear friends of ours. Lee does a SUPER job cooking fish, French fries, and hush puppies!! Jim and family surprised us with another visit on Friday evening.

Saturday morning Jim came back over and he and Wes played a few holes of golf. During lunch they got in lots of football and other sports talk. I sure had fun listening to them. I took Wes to Midland and left him at the airport about 3:00 pm. He called about 5:30 and he was in his car heading to Lake Jackson.

When I got home Lee and I both agreed that we had had a wonderful four days!! Can hardly wait for next year!!

Ft. Worth-Athens November 6-7, 2009

Another fun weekend. I left Bronte Friday, November 6 and got to Ft. Worth about noon. After a snack and short rest I went to Anna' s school--Dallas Park Elementary--and read to her kindergarten class. It was a definite surprise to her!! I checked her out early and the two of us went to Braum's for ice cream and then we picked up Ada--a surprise for her also. We enjoyed a quiet Friday evening and Saturday morning at LeAnn's house.

Saturday afternoon LeAnn, Anna, Ada, and I drove to Athens to attend the baby shower for Carman (and Carter). It was so heartwarming for me to see how much Carman and Jim are loved and appreciated in Athens. The attendance at the shower and the gifts were great!! Little Carter can wear a new outfit for weeks without a repeat. I truly appreciate Renee Campbell for opening her beautiful home for the shower and for the other hosteses: Angela Cook, Suzanne Elder, Kele Giles, Julie Red and Angela Sullenbarger. They are wonderful friends.

We got back to Ft. Worth about 8:30 PM--tired, but happy. I returned home Sunday. What a fantastic time!!

Ft. Worth--October 1-4, 2009

I left Bronte Thursday, October 4 a little after noon and got to Ft. Worth about 4. I went to Anna's school to pick her up. She was on the playground and I was afraid that she would fall off the slide ladder she was so surprised!! Then we went to get Ada--she was just as surprised. What fun!! Friday I took lunch to Anna at school--her order was "corn dog, French fries, and Sprite". So I went by Sonic and got a kids meal. We had fun eating together. Later that afternoon I again picked both girls up and this time we went to Braum's for ice cream. More fun!! Saturday was a quiet day at home until late eavening when we went to the grocery store to get ingredients so Anna and I could make pies--a pecan for Ryan and a pumpkin for Anna. By the way, she really didn't like the finished pie. Ryan wasn't feeling well so he stayed at home while LeAnn, the girls and I went to La Familia. It's so much fun to spend time with my girls. Drove home safely Sunday morning--cloudy, misty, light rain.

Mawmaw Memories

When LeAnn was about 7 years old and Jim about 5 years old, my mother (Mawmaw) embroidered chambray shirts for both of them--embroidered chambray shirts were very unisex in the early 70s. I was going through stuff the other day and found the shirts. I gave LeAnn's shirt to Jordan and she was absolutely thrilled to death. Anna will get Jim's shirt when I have a chance. Then Jordan will pass hers down to Anna and Anna's will go to Ada. If you knew my mother, you know how much she would have adored these three little girls so it warms my heart to see Jordan loving the shirt.

I included a self-picture of Jordan and me--she had to show me how to hold the camera to take our own picture!! Then two more pictures: (1) Blue (my little grey miniature poodle who is absolutely spoiled rotten) and me (2) Jordan and Blue.

Summer 2009 is Ending

How exciting this summer has been!! Jim and family moved to San Angelo, July 4th with EVERYONE here, Anna spent a few days, Jordan here to swim 2-3 times a week, Ada spent a few days--everyone went home this afternoon and the house is so quiet and neat!! I'm sad to say that I have taken very few pictures this summer--just didn't seem to have time. But here are a few from yesterday when all three girls were here to swim. One day when we got home from swimming, Jordan was cold so I made her a cup of hot chocolate (actually warm chocolate) so when we get home from swimming, it's hot chocolate time as you can see in the pictures. I had to include a picture of Ada in her swimming goggles--notice that her hair isn't even wet. But she HAS to have the goggles on!! Jordan seldom gets out of the water so the picture of her is with Ryan. Her face is covered up with goggles, but she spend more time under the water than she does on top!! It's been a wonderful summer, but I guess that all good things have to come to an end. School will start in a couple of weeks- - -

Summer 2009

Phew!! It's been a busy summer!! Jim, Carman, and Jordan moved to San Angelo and Jordan spent nearly 2 weeks here. We spent lots of time at the swimming pool. LeAnn and family were here for 4th of July weekend and Anna stayed for five days. I'm sad to say that I was so busy that I didn't take more than a couple of pictures, but I'll attach what I do have.

Jordan and Anna enjoy playing dressup--especially as brides---Jordan and I made sock monkeys--LeAnn, Anna, and Ada helping Elton Moore feed Little Booger--first picture of the new little one.

But the really EXCITING news is that Carman and Jim are expecting another little Wommack on February 5--so here's the first picture of Carter/Jackson (Carter for a girl and Jackson for a boy). Carman went to the doctor this morning for definite confirmation and due date. The new arrival is a TOTAL surprise--I tried to tell Carman what would happen when she sold the baby bed when she had a garage sale before they left Athens!! We are all excited!!

Coke County Red Hat Mamas

Jordan and I went to the monthly meeting of the Coke County Red Hat Mamas. This month we met at Ft. Chadbourne for a sack lunch. After eating and visiting we visited Nell Richard's "Doll House". Nell has a collection of several thousand dolls--old, new, small, large. Jordan was fascinated. She was a little afraid of the large wooden Indian, but Mrs. Richards convinced her to have their picture made. Then we got on the four-wheelers and went to look for the buffalo. We were successful!! We saw "Big Daddy", his harem, and four babies. Jordan was so excited. I would like to say a big "Thank you" to the ladies who attended for being so gracious and accepting of Jordan--Red Hat is really for "old ladies"--notice Jordan's pink hat!!

News from the Wommacks--Jim, Carman, and Jordan are moving to San Angelo!! Jim has accepted a job as assistant coach at Lakeview HS and Carman will be teaching 5th grade at Holiman Elementary. They have to fulfill their contracts at Athens so have In-Service the week of June 1-5 so I went to Athens to bring Jordan home with me.

I went to Ft. Worth on Thursday, May 28 then Anna and I left early Friday morning for Athens. Carman left as soon as we got there--she went to Odessa to her grandmother's funeral.

What fun I had with the two girls. We shopped at Walmart, they each had $2.00 to spend at Dollar Tree and then lunch at McDonalds. Home to rest, ride the scooter, play with Blue, and just play, play, play. Dinner at Jalepeno Tree. Saturday was more play, play, play. Someday I'll get really brave and have all three girls at the same time. The ages of 5,7, and 9 sound pretty good to me.

LeAnn, Ryan and Ada came Saturday evening to attend Jordan's dance recital. It was wonderful having everyone together. Of course, Jordan was the most beautiful and best dancer in the recital. And Anna and Ada absolutely LOVED the recital!!
Jordan and I came to Bronte on Monday, June 1. Jim will be here with a trailer load on the 8th and the final move will be Sunday, June 14. Believe it or not, Carman is sponsoring 10-12 students to Washington, DC June 10-13. But Carman is wonderful and will get everything done!!

Hope you enjoy the pictures!!

TRIP OF A LIFETIME

I went to New York City!! I was accompanied by a dear friend Fredna Moore from Bronte and her granddaughter Shonna Garcia from Midland. We left San Angelo at 7:30 am on Monday, May 11 and arrived at LaGuardia at 2:30 pm. We stayed at the Casablanca Hotel on 43rd St. just about a half block from Times Square—Broadway and 7th. It was GREAT!!
Monday night we took a tour and stopped at Grand Central Terminal, Fulton Ferry Landing under the Brooklyn Bridge, and Little Italy. Along the way we saw Macy’s, Herald Square, Madison Square Garden, Greenwich Village, Canal Street, Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, Chinatown, Hudson River.

Tuesday morning we took another tour and stopped at World Trade Center Site, NYSE, Federal Hall, South Street Seaport, Rockefeller Center, Central Park (Strawberry Fields with John Lennon’s “Imagine” memorial across the street from Dakota Building). Along the way we saw Park Avenue, 5th Avenue, Central Park Zoo, Tiffany’s, FAO Schwartz, Lincoln Center . We took the Staten Island Ferry which gave a beautiful view of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. On the way back to the hotel we ate REAL NY pizza!!

Wednesday afternoon we saw Jersey Boys—the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The 50s-60s music was so much fun!! After the theater, we went to Tavern on the Green in Central Park for dinner. That was a real treat for us country girls!!

Thursday morning we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We took a tour to get an overall view of the museum. With 2 million items it would literally be impossible to see it all. But it was a wonderful experience. After a restful afternoon we saw The Lion King. What a production!! It was great!! Walking to the hotel about 11 o’clock that night I got the full feeling of being in Times Square. The lights are fantastic!!

We left the hotel about 8:30 am, left from LaGuardia about 11 am and arrived in San Angelo about 5:30 pm. A very tired but happy group of three ladies!!

Jordan

Carman is so good to send me pictures of Jordan--I just can't get to Athens to see her as often as I like and Jim's coaching pretty well keeps them tied down. She is a beautiful 6 year old and I dearly love her. Enjoy the pictures!!

LeAnn, Ryan, Anna, and Ada got here just in time to hunt Easter eggs at the nursing home on Friday. Lots of fun. Saturday LeAnn and the girls and I rode around Bronte and saw turkeys, goats, chickens with babies, a donkey, a horse--and probably some more interesting animals. Lee and Ryan went fishing at Bronte lake and Ryan caught a keeper bass. Beat Lee!! Saturday afternoon we went to the Moores to watch them bottle feed a baby calf and then to Lee's Playground to see the cows. We even saw a couple of deer. Anna went to Sunday School at the nursing home with me and LeAnn, Ryan, and Ada picked her up there. The house sure is quiet and neat this afternoon. I miss them!!
