Lee and I retired in 1994 and went to our little place at Oak Creek Lake (12 miles north of Bronte) to rest, relax, and remodel the little cabin. We had pretty well neglected it for several years--just came down to fish, play and have fun. We put in all new windows (well, actually, the old windows from the house in Odessa), new metal siding, new metal roof, new garage behind the house. It became a chore to go to Odessa to take care of the house there so in 1996 we sold our house at 4609 Locust in Odessa. Moving from 2200 square feet to 800 square feet was quite a challenge so we added a large bedroom, bath, and utility room to the lake house--making it about 1200 square feet which was very liveable. I loved that place!! In about 2004 Lee decided that he wanted to leave the lake. We looked at every house for sale in Bronte for about 2 years and he finally said that he was going to look somewhere else--he really didn't know where!! So I just told the Lord that if he wanted us to move to Bronte, he was going to have to send us a house. About two weeks later Clark Glenn came up to me at Sunday School and said, "Do you all want to look at our house?" We did, we loved the house, it suited Lee so we bought it and moved in in May 2006. I was not ready to leave the lake, but I am happy in Bronte.
Being in Bronte enables us to be more active in the community. Lee is on the board of Bronte Health and Rehab Center and has been president since May 2006. I teach the Sunday School class at BHRD and Lee assists me. Both of us are active in Coke County Retired Teachers. I got my ECA (Emergency Care Attendent) license in June 2008 and serve as a volunteer with Bronte Ambulance Service and Lee drives the ambulance. I belong to Sorosis Study Club, The Bookies (a book club), Prayer Shawl Ministry at First Baptist Church. I still love to read and to sew and since I retired I've been bitten by the "quilting bug". So I manage to stay busy.
In 2000 we bought 86 acres of land about 10 miles north of Bronte (just across from Oak Creek). Lee has spend hours and hours trimming trees, cutting firewood, building roads and terraces (with his backhoe). He built 2 deer blinds and enjoys sitting in the blind and watching deer. He did kill one deer last year, but didn't even shoot this year.
