Teaching at Hood Jr. High in Odessa for 22 years meant that I made many special friends. Several years ago a few of us decided to have a Hood Retired Teachers Reunion. We get together once a year and it seems that we usually have a different group each year. I hadn't been able to attend for the last couple of years so I really enjoyed this year. The best part is that my homemaking partner for about 7 years--Nelda Tandy--came to Bronte and we drove to Odessa together. I can honestly say that during my 22 years I never dreaded going to SCHOOL. Yes, there were days I would have liked to stay at home, but not because I didn't want to go to school. I'm afraid that active teachers today aren't able to say that because of lack of discipline, lack of administrative support, and parental support. But how lucky I was to teach when I did. I still substitute because I still love kids and believe in them. Enjoy the pictures---
I was looking at your blog for the first time and actually felt a bit sorry for you. Not a single person has made a comment. So, being the loving person that I am (stop laughing), I will be the first.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for being a great teacher. I think and speak of you often. Being a teacher myself, it is tough to see those in the business that are not in it for the same reason that I was taught. I will not get on my soapbox and rant about it. You and my other great teachers taught me so very well. I will never be able to tell you just how much I appreciate it. I too come to work everyday because this is where I want to be. People like you, Randy Mayes, Bucky Jones, Ms. Robinson, Ms. Sample, Ms. Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. Davis, Ms. Mortimer, Mr. Tyner, Coach Chatham, Ms. Hill, Ms. Herring,
Ms. Wilkins, Ms. Scott, Ms. Carter.............wow, I think I could go on and on. Any of those names ring a bell? You were all so great. Thank you for setting the example and guiding me to the greatest profession on earth. I just hope that I can lead some young people the way you led me.
Mom, love you more than you know. Best mom ever!

Wow! How do I compete with comments like Jim's. I actually did not have you as my teacher, but I do know what an awesome teacher you were and are!! It has been such a pleasure and honor to get to know you and work with you on many projects -- BHRC Auxiliary, Sorosis Study Club, and many others. You are such a wonderful lady that has touched many, many people! You do not realize how precious you are.
ReplyDeleteReading Jim's comments about teachers at Hood brought back many memories. Coach Chatham taught my computer class and my driver's ed -- now you know why I drive the way I do! Mr Tiner was an awesome teacher; Ms. Sample, Ms. Mortimer, Ms. Hill all played a role in my life too. But I have to tell you that Coach Mayes and Mrs. Mayes really impacted my life too!
You are one of the teachers that leave an impact on a child's life for their lifetime!!
